Welcome to Brookham Pre-prep

Welcome to Brookham, an independent pre-prep for boys and girls aged from 2-8 years. We’re located in wonderful 175-acre grounds in Liphook, within the South Downs National Park, and welcome families from across Hampshire, Surrey and West Sussex. The children that join us benefit from small class sizes and high staff-to-children ratios which gift our teachers the time to develop each individual child, helping them build the foundations to becoming courageous and independent life-long learners.

Mrs Sophie Baber

Headteacher

Brookham Pre-prep provides children with a magical start to their education. Our knowledgeable and dedicated team of staff are passionate about delivering the very best pre-prep education for children aged 2-8. They take our children on an amazing educational adventure that, due to its breadth and creativity, is hard to match. With a belief that one should never underestimate the capabilities of young children and a supportive and nurturing environment, there are no limits to what our young people can achieve.

Whether charging around on the sports pitches, performing on stage or in a concert, seeing their work in an art exhibition, collaborating in Forest School or beavering away in class, all our children become confident, independent learners with a thirst for knowledge and a willingness to take risks. We give our children the tools to investigate the world around them rather than the answers to learn. We encourage the children to ask questions and to think and solve problems for themselves. The skills that Brookham Pre-prep instils will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

The only way to get a real sense of what we achieve is to take the next step and come and visit us at one of our Open Mornings or Personalised Visits. It is only then that you will appreciate how special a school Brookham Pre-prep really is. I can assure you that a warm welcome awaits you.

Seeing the Brookham children jump into wellies and waterproof trousers in record time and charge out to break was fabulous

Brookham Nursery

Nursery is the exciting first step on a child's learning journey and at Brookham we ensure that this is a magical time, full of adventure and discovery. Children can join Nursery from the moment they turn 2 years old and our experienced Head of Early Years, Mrs Samantha Forster, and her team go the extra mile to deliver the best possible start to your child's education, nurturing a love of discovery and captivating and developing the curiosity and inquisitive minds of our very youngest children.

Brookham Pre-prep

As the children move up through the school into Reception and Years 1-3, learning becomes more formalised, but there’s still plenty of time for our children to explore and discover. All our children benefit from our expansive natural environment as we take learning outside at every opportunity, be that toasting a marshmallow over the campfire or discovering the wildlife that lives in our woodlands. Child-led activities give the children freedom to learn at their own pace and allows them to develop and pursue their own interests. All children at Brookham develop further skills with specialist subject teachers in weekly lessons in PE, Swimming, Ballet, Spanish, Drama, Music and Forest School.

Typical Day

Before-School Care

Children may be dropped off at school from 8am where they will be supervised by a member of staff and enjoy a range of games and toys to play with.

Registration

At 8.15am, the school doors open and the children can go straight to their classrooms. The register is taken at 8.25am each day.

Break Times

We have two break times during the course of the day, both of which will be spent outside whenever possible. Morning break is 20 minutes and the children are offered a drink and fruit before going outside. Our second break follows lunch and lasts approximately half an hour.

End of Day

At the end of the day, the children are collected from their external classroom doors. Collection is at 3.20pm (Reception & Year 1), 3.30pm (Year 2 and on Wednesdays for Year 3), 4.30pm (Year 3 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays). On Fridays, Reception children may go home at 11.30am, 1.30pm or 3.20pm.

After-School Care

Children needing after-school care enjoy a calm and secure environment. A small snack is provided and the children have a range of games and toys to play with. Children can be collected any time up until 5.30pm.

After-School Activities

We offer an extraordinary range of extra-curricular opportunities and encourage the children to pursue their interests and passions with clubs such as coding, gymnastics, pottery and judo.

After Brookham

Most children attending Brookham progress to our prep school, Highfield, and from there onto some of the very best senior schools in the country. We understand that there are choices to be made at every stage of a child’s educational journey and we are here to support you as you make those academic choices. Whatever you decide, the education children at Brookham receive will ensure they are well-equipped with the necessary skills to succeed in the next stage of their educational odyssey.

Next steps

During their final year at Brookham, children are readied for the next stage of their education. If they are moving up to Highfield Prep School, then this will, of course, be a simple step, as the grounds, facilities and many of the teachers will already be familiar to them. During their final year, we provide further opportunities to familiarise children with Highfield. Year 3 children use ‘Moving Up Day’ in the Summer Term to get an exciting early feel for life in Year 4. This helps dispel any anxiety and readies the children for this big and important step in September.

Should families make the decision to transfer their child to an alternative school, then we work with and support parents to make the right educational choice for their child and their family, as well as preparing the child for any entry assessments that may be necessary.

By the end of their time at Brookham, the children will have developed into courageous learners and are eager and ready to take the next steps on their educational path.
